"My" Dogs!
How we get along...
To start with,it is highly recommended that your Dog is trained, or at least well behaved on a lead. If your Dog is hard to manage, then a Dog walker may not be the best first-call.
For those with Dogs that need a little training reminder. We are so lucky here in Bathurst to have a range of training and trainers available to educate Owners and their Dogs. I suggest you take up any one of the Dog Training groups, clubs, vet puppy schools and private trainers. Contact as many as you can and get the best fit for you and your Dog.
It is my aim to have My Dogs recognise me as, '.. that fun guy that takes me on nice, but tiring walks!'. I'd also like to have them think of me as, '...that guy who gives out random pats and lets them sniff at things a little longer than usual'. That the whole thing is really just a nice lil escape from the yard and they associate me with fun and relaxing walks.
I am not a trainer, but I am happy to reinforce a few things you, your Dog and a trainer are working on. It's a great way to get yesterdays lesson reinforced.
-
I don't turn your Dog into a perfect pet... that's the job of the owner
-
I don't do any physical punishments, no love taps or friendly kick ( I have been asked to do that) ...sorry...wrong guy!
-
I don't do nose taps or bottom spanks.
Seriously the worst they will get from me is an '...Oi, stop that...', and we keep on going'.
I dont drag anyone away from a cool shady spot...I'll sit down with them too. I do offer lots of stops, rest and water breaks and after a while they tell me where they want to stop! Even though I brag about my team covering big distances... I also brag about those covering smaller distances... I am very happy to walk slower, believe me!!
If they are all excited about something pleasant or unpleasant, we just keep walking and I give out those free pats when we are all safe and happy! We may even sit under the shade of a tree and just chill!
It's all the same way I have taught experiential Education. Just role model what you want and things just happen. Dogs are very clever people! They know who they like and trust, and those just yelling incomprehensibly!!.
I also look after your Dog...like it is your Dog. ( I always take better care of cars, houses, that new couch that aren't mine!) So i am very vigilant and very protective of "My" Dogs..
I always keep your dog on a lead, I know some folks like to let their Dogs off lead... (and thats great to let them off the leash...literally!) but i'm not happy with that level of risk to your Dog. So I keep them close and safe.
So that's just for starters...I hope I can set off on walks with your Dog soon...
