Here are some dog walking ideas.
I have been asked where certain pictures have been taken, so I thought I would add a section on the website of different locations of great open spaces we have here in Bathurst. Here are some of the obvious as well as my favourites.
I have added these as "my" Dogs love getting out and about in these areas. Maybe some are close to you! I also want as many dogs out there having fun with their family members. I see lots and lots of Dogs in my walks that are at home all day and waiting for their family to come home.
Surprise your Dog, and open the gate and go for an explore it doesnt have to be an amazing walk, it just needs to be a walk!
Let me know what days you can't get to... and i'll have your family fur-friend all sorted!
Please remember these are public open spaces and pick-up after your Dog!
Please message me from the contacts section to tell me of your favourite park or walking route. Long or short, steep or flat... its all good!

The Dog Park
Cnr Stewart St & Kefford St.
-
This is an obvious choice for those close to and those prepared to drive their dogs. Though, i do recommend just walking there...just work up to it slowly!
-
This park is safety fenced and is an ideal location to practice leash-free walking and socialising.
-
Be aware that this park is very well utilised especially early mornings and after school/work hours. I have counted up to 24 dogs in the afternoons. so maybe not the best if your Dog hasn't been socialised.
-
It has Doggy doo bags and a fresh water tap and some play equipment
Bicentennial Riverside Park
Various points of access: Hereford St, Stanley St, River Rd, Denison Bridge (Near Showground)
The Bicentennial Riverside Park is a very well known Public access open space. You will be sharing with walkers, cyclists, the young, the not so young, families and friends solos, and groups.
-
The Riverside park is a showcase park easily accessible for those with mobility considerations. The River Rd / Hereford St carpark is the flattest.
-
There are toliet facilities, doggy doo bags at the Hereford St carpark, it's all fully paved and plenty of parking.
-
For those with a Dog that is learning to socialise, the riverside road side has the wider open areas and nice platy areas and access to the River.

Learmonth Park.
Kendall St / Great Western Highway
Learmonth Park is a pretty massive open space set aside for sporting activities. It is well used on weekends.
-
Learmonth park is a great flat space and when you get into the middle of it, the road noise from the highway is minimal and few distractions... great for training drills and such.
-
There is a tap at the "western end" near the skate park and someone has left a water dish there.
-
There are bathrooms in Berry Park across the street from the skate / park & hockey fields. You can also access Riverside Park from here as well. Learmonth Park has parking at Berry Park, along the Highway and at the touch football buildings off Gilmour St and Dorman Pl.

Hector Park.
Between Mitchell Highway (Vittoria St) & Rocket St headed (to the west) by Alexander St
Hector Park is a nice open space with its own water feature!
-
It has a flat paved cycleway access on one side of the water course (Vittoria St side) and flat open space on the Rocket St side
-
There are public toilets as part of a rest stop, so there is parking off the highway, that is sometimes busy..
-
The Alexander street end has the Basket Ball Stadium Car park. This t is handy access to a pleasant flat loop along the cycleway all the way to Peel St. Either return along the Cycleway or loop back along the unpaved section of the watercourse.
-
Don't forget you can extend your walk even further by crossing Alexander St to Brooke Moore Oval and Even Further to the Cemetary. This is actually a pleasant and peacefull parkland that lots of walkers use..

"All Saints Watercourse".
Small roadside parking area Cnr Read Pl and Osborne St's, or walking access from Eglinton Rd at the All Saints Boundary.
For want of a Better name i have called this All Saints Watercourse. Maybe it has a real name. If Anyone can fill me in, please contact me!
-
This is another Hidden Gem. You pass it on Eglinton Rd or along Bradwardine Dr. But most only see it from Bradwardine.
-
It's a gentle slope with a short steeper section at the top near Read Pl. It passes horses and ocassionally other livestock, so maybe a new friend to make?
-
There are no Facilities here. A few people know of this water course, so please pick-up after your Dog.
-
For an even longer walk.... continue up along what I call the "Booth Steet walk"
"Booth St Park".
Booth St
Booth St park has lots and lots of offshoots, and connects with a number of open spaces even all the way to Windradyne heights. It has a paved path along its main centre. So you locals can access it from any number of ways
-
I mentioned above, that you can cross Bradwardine and walk down the watercourse by All Saints School.
-
Maybe try parking at Read Pl again and incorporate the two walks!!
-
"Booth St Park" has a gentle continuous slope. There are no facilities at this park.
-
Please pick up after your Dog as this park is well utilised.
"Evernden Rd / Eglinton Rd Watercourse".
Access from the Top : Evernden Rd
Access from the Bottom: Eglinton Rd
This is one of my other favourite hidden gems, you dont see it from Eglinton Rd as there is a large earthen burm hiding the open space. You also dont see much of it from Evernden Rd... either way, if you drive too fast you'll miss it.
-
This is a great Dog walk. Its a pretty large open space
-
There is a flat area at the bottom for open space play and the continuous slope up hill is great for the more fit!
-
I zig zag up it so its easier on the knees!
-
Please pick up after your Dog as this park is well utilised.

"Richardson Rd watercourse/s".
Access from middle of Richardson Rd: watercourse all the way along fence-line to Munro St
Access from the end of Richardson Rd along the fenceline all the way to Monro St
Yet another hidden gem. This one also passes by farmland, so your Dog may make new friends. Remember to respect the stock and choose not to be so close to the fence-line if needed! There is some street parking along, or at the end of Richardson Rd. Please be respectful of local Residents access.
-
This is a deceptively nice walk, you start from Richardson St and walk down either watercourse and along the fenceline. The fenceline stops just short of Munro St. You need to walk back the way you cam. There are a couple alley ways that lead off this walk, so maybe you live nearby!
-
This walk is a narrow walkway, but veiws across open pastures.
-
There are no Facilities available.
-
This walk paralells peoples back yards so be mindful of your proximity to homes.
Ophir Rd "Swimming hole"
Rankens Bridge Carpark to Ophir Rd
-
This is an little used section of the cycle way as it "dead-ends"
-
It does however finish near a water hole
-
You can cut out the walk (your dog needs the exercise!) and park along Ophir Rd. This may be unsafe for more than a couple cars.
-
This is another hidden Gem so please pick up after your Dog!
Rankens Bridge
Rankens Bridge Carpark
-
Rankens Bridge is a really nice starting point in general. Either way you go upstream or down stream, provides a pleasant walk.
-
Use the cycle/walkway, or walk in the grass, or visit the water at a few spots along the way
-
There are at least 3 accessible points to the water along the riverside walk. ( one is a lil steep for us on two legs!)
-
You can start or finish along the cylce way it basically follows Eglinton Rd!
Rankens Bridge / Golf driving range
Following the Cycle way
-
It has a wide open space so those a lil uncertain of people, Bikes, kids prams etc, have lots of wide areas to keep clear. Maybe a nice way to socialise your Dog that its ok to see people!
-
There is a Doggy-doo bag dispenser near the Park "Gym" as well as almost halfway between the bridge and the driving range.
-
There isn't any parking at the Driving range end, unless you drive along Eglinton rd and park just before the "All Saints bend"
Driving Range to John Cohen Grove
Follows Eglinton Rd
-
Best Car park here would be near the John Cohen Grove. Be aware this is not a designated "car park" so be mindful of residents.
-
The John Cohen park gives you west- east access to the Walkway / Cycle way and can link all the way to Rankens bridge , west, or all the way east to the Riverside park!
John Cohen grove to Waterworks
Follow the walkway / cycle way
-
This route has livestock on either side. Although the horses are used to people and Dogs, your dog may have different attitudes to a few hundred kilos of being... so be mindful of your Dogs reactions.
-
This is a flat section great for Kids learning to ride, wheel chairs or people with mobility considerations.
Waterworks to the Dog Park
Parking at either end.
-
You can start at either end. There is parking at the Dog Park or near the waterworks near the PCYC.
-
Simply follow the levee (the other hidden gems of walkways we have everywhere! ) Jump on one and just explore!) downstream from the Dog park or Up stream from the water works.
-
The Dog park is a great place to head to as there is water and Doggy-doo bags and disposal.
-
If you jump off the levee and head to the river just near the Dog park there is a nice access to the river.
"More to come".
-
On the Kelso side of the River, the levee runs all the way from Learmonth park almost to St Pats footy field.
-
There is a section that is signposted "no pedestrian access", but the cycle way / walk way paralells the levee so you can chose where to walk and miss the section thats signposted.
-
If you follow this levee, cross Hereford St, continue along the levee to St Pats football field cross the Gilmour St... there's yet another cycleway and watercourse.
-
We havent even started on the walks on, and Near Mount Pan or really gone outside of a couple K's from the River.

Charles Sturt University
Cnr Panorama Ave & Browning St.
-
Most of us know that the Uni is there! But it is an underutilised walkway.
-
Use the old "Golf Course" and loop around, criss-cross it or use it to access all the pathways.
-
Follow the road way the entire way around the campus, or just stroll around the golf course visit the Dam or even Cut down from the Post office to the "entrance gate" for Mt Pan!
-
Please pick up after your Dogs... this is not necessarily a "public" space. But the uni does allow dog walking.
-
The Uni does not allow dog walking on any of its sporting grounds.
-
Dogs must be on leads at all times.
-
After "school " hours is a great time to access the Uni.
