Betty is one of the latest to join my team. I have been acting as taxi driver for her to get to school, so we don’t get too much time to socialize and have fun. So it was nice to get to take Betty for a walk and show her around.
Bettyu is only a young little girl. A complete ball of energy and excitement when she sees you or other new people. She does settle down ok, and by the time we start driving she is usually settled in. The same thing happened for our walk. She was very excited to see me but by the time we had the lead on we were all set to go.
We started off with a quick reminder of her lessons and we settled in to our walk. Betty is a lovely natured girl and is happiest when she is busy at school and walking about. Her owner has a sore knee and has to be on the injury bench for a little while. Betty will eventually be trained as an assistance / companion Dog to her new family, so I just know she will be a busy girl. Especially since her new Dad is very adventurous and usually always on the go!
Betty, it turns out, is a great walker. Although only little, with her legs sprinting along, she was speeding along nicely. She is learning to be good on a lead and to leave things alone when called. She really took to exploring and in only 15 mins we’d covered the distance I had thought we might make! So we charged off at a ground covering pace.
To my surprise, we did this huge loop that I do with some of my other champion walkers. Betty is a champ in the making starting off with a long distance. I was going to take it easy on her for her first walk, But Betty showed me she was up for more. So by the time we made it home she was still full of beans, but as soon as we went inside she flopped nicely on the floor. On talking with her owner I found out Betty can walk a long distance before she needs a rest…so look out Miss Betty, we may walk even further next time! Well done for a first walk!
