Zoe and Joe, down by the River

Today was the second morning in a row that I was able to sneak up on Zoe and Joe. It wasn’t until I was inside the gate that they knew I was there! Though it did help that just as I arrived a few cars went by to hide mine as I pulled up… But the gate latch is always a giveaway!
Although it hasn’t been as hot as expected, I was planning to take Zoe and Joe down by the river for a paddle and a splash. They always like the water and it had been a while since we have gone down to the river. We set off at a nice pace and made good time.
There were a few Dogs out for walks but we had a mission so we weren’t too distracted… well except for the smells they found along the way. I’m pretty casual about “my Dogs” sniffing about and getting a little distracted so they were head down and tails up. Zoe is always the first to use her nose and find different things. Joe is more visual and likes to keep an eye on things.
While Zoe was off sniffing at things, Joe was spotting various things that even I couldn’t really see what the excitement was about. But either way… they were happy as we walked along. W had actually built up a thirst and Zoe called the first time out…I think she was just liking the look of a shady spot she had found!
We made it to the river and I was planning on a good play and wander around. Zoe is always the first to jump in and Joe always follows but isn’t as much a water baby as Zoe. Their mum says Joe doesn’t swim… but that’s ok we never go in very deep and only as far as the lead will take us! I did make an extendo-lead and Joe was happy to keep in the shallow riffles.
Zoe was knee deep and lay down a few times in the water… I’m sure the running water through her fur felt good… who doesn’t like just relaxing in water?
We went a little further up stream, but that spot drops off quick… Zoe went in for a splash…then we went downstream where there was another little riffle and we walked about in that.
So after a nice little play we headed off. Along the way we had another rest and drinks break that Joe had called so we had another play and wrestle…these two love a tussle! But between the two of them, I never stand a chance!
We had one more lil rest break and dashed for home. At home there was a cool drink waiting and a lay down in the shade… a big rest after a big walk! Good job Zoe and Joe!
