Billy… the tree climber…

Billy and I headed off into the bright sunny day towards a path that would mostly keep us in shade. It was still hot and even a bit of hard work on the way home, but Billy still had enough energy to try and climb trees!

Billy must have been napping in the shade again when I arrived, as he was a lil hazy as to who I was… but on closer inspection he worked out who I was… Good one Billy! We had our little bonding session and headed off. It was pretty warm today, so I thought we’d take it easy. But the excitement of checking everything out kept us going further and further from home.

It was nice and shady in a lot of places so with the warm temps we stopped for rests and a couple more drink breaks than usual. Billy is a pretty economical walker so he wasn’t too thirsty at the breaks, but he did like the lil lay down… so he was happy.

Billy, as you know is pretty casual, though he can be quick as a flash if there is a cat in the shrubbery or if there is a flying bug about (should see him when beetles or grasshoppers jump away…he tries to catch them), but he also has an interest in tree dwelling creatures. He has only done it a couple of times now… but sometimes there is such an interesting, maybe fresh scent, heading up into the trees.

The other times I wasn’t quick enough to take a pic, but today he was very adamant that there was something pretty cool up this tree. We circled about a few times, and Billy climbed up and even jumped up to a branch around my head height (that’s not very high, but we are both short, so it was a good effort!) I never saw what it was, nor had any ideas…I asked Billy, but he didn’t want to tell me…probably wanted to surprise me…!

So after a lil tree climbing detour we headed off for some more shade in the park and had adrink break before heading home again. As it was warm out, we didn’t tackle one of the hills we sometimes do, but stuck to the flats. By the time we were about a kilometer away from home we both slowed up, so we had one more shady rest before the push home.

It’s always great walking with my team members and I love it when they get to see, smell or hear different things. It’s always a good day when you get to go outside… well done Billy!
