Phil and I did a nice big loop that took in no less than 4 parks and somewhere around the 6th pigeon chase, Phil crossed the 180km mark! Not bad for an old fella! I tried to wear him out by scaling a couple of good hills, but he left me pooped out after the first few Km!
We set off on a cool morning today. There were even some last little pockets of mist that was getting burned off with the morning sun, so that was a very pleasant change in the weather.
We headed off down to the halfway point of a nice hill and crossed a bridge over a little creek then went across to the start of one of the parks I like, but we headed off up the hill and I wanted to scale a nice steep section to see if Phil would tire out and we could take a shorter version of the walk. Alas… no short walks for you today Mike! So after clambering up the hill we went across to the junction of some major roads and another park.
Did I mention by this stage Phil had seen all manner of pigeons and was having a field day! He saw most of them before me, but I did point out a few that he missed. Though he did want to stalk up of a couple flocks of galahs, but when he realized what they were he wasn’t so interested. I know Phil likes to watch ducks, and I took him to see some that I saw with Riley the other day, but they all must have been asleep still as we didn’t see any.
We crossed over to another park, and had to skirt around the oval as there were lots of kids and families playing cricket and as we walked by we met with a friendly fur-friend and their mum. Phil was mistaken for a much younger Dog, so I am sure he was pretty chuffed with that!
Then we went by more sporting facilities, to yet another park! I was hoping (yet again) to see some water, but the creek was bone dry, so disappointing. Phil didn’t seem to mind as he was looking for more pigeons…he was on a roll and didn’t want to miss any!
So one last winding hill to go, and off we trotted. Phil was having a good time in the back streets, there are always lots of birds in gardens and we almost stepped on one lone pigeon… so you could imagine how excited Phil was about that… neither of us saw it until we were very very close!
Not too far from home we celebrated the 180km mark ( I didn’t really know at the time) by seeing even more pigeons! So by the time we got home, all those birds, all those hills and a fair few kilometers later we arrived home. Phil was pretty thirsty and was finally breathing a little heavier. Phil is such a fit boy he covers his tiredness well!
Good job Phil, and congratulations on the 180k’s!
