Riley is a new member to the team and he has a busy schedule of walks with his family, but a couple of days need filling so we get to walk together. Riley is very clever and knows his way around and the way we should go… I just have to learn the route!
You all know that I love walking with my team, they are always entertaining and I hope I entertain them with the silly loopy walks we do, sometimes long and sometimes short…usually slightly different each time or we have a loose schedule of the variants we do. Riley seems to have a routine and reminds me, ‘…this isn’t the way, Mike…!’
The start and the finish are always familiar (though I will mix that up soon too!) but I zig and zag around the place at the best of times. Today, as we were shady tree hopping, we did particularly weird zags! Riley would look at me strangely when Id head off in one direction at one intersection …and then off in another at another intersection! He eventually gave up trying to advise me where to go and just went with it.
Riley is a pretty quiet boy really. He doesn’t fuss or get too excited. But this is only our second walk. I did find out he likes ducks, but we went to the pond in one of our zigs and the ducks weren’t there. Riley seems to like the water and was staring at the gambusia (lil fishies!), so that drew his attention for a little while. I am sure we’ll see ducks next time Riley!
So we had a couple of rest and drink breaks. Riley didn’t seem to need the rest, but he was a thirsty boy. We even refilled just in case and while I did that he drank from under the tap I was using…so he was very well hydrated!
On our way home Riley found the tree that the possum was in, but I couldn’t see it… it was a big tree and lots of places to hide, so I am sure it was still up there somewhere.
We made it home for a nice cool shady rest and a drink after what was another warm walk. Don’t worry Riley, you’ll get the hang of me… I always try and mix our walks up…it makes things more interesting…and who knows we might see hear or smell some new things about the place! Good walking Riley!
