Billy: ‘… but Mike, there’s a Possum…!’

Just when I start to feel sorry for walking Billy so late in the day and taking it easy on him, he scents something in a tree….and finally we look up and there is a possum… very exciting! No possums were interrupted in the making of this walk! The possum was very high up, and on a cosy looking limb having a nap!
We set off again for our walk, and it’s early in the week, so Billy is all about the love…so it took us a lil while to hit our stride…but I’m ok with that… he does love a pat and a scratch! So we shade hopped our way and zig zagged a crazy loopy walk. We also had a few shady stretch-out rests and a couple of drinks. Billy even held me up in a shady spot of his choosing so it was a pretty leisurely walk really.
We had reached the half way point and Billy was searching out trees… as we all know Boy Dogs do anyway, but this was his, ‘…oh, mike there is something up there…’, search. It took me a few goes but I eventually saw the possum he had scented and then pointed out to me!
Billy was very happy about that. He tried to do some more tree climbing which I thought was amusing, because only a few hundred metres ago he was like, ‘… Mike, this looks like a great shady spot to rest…doesn’t it?’ so we did a few laps of the tree and jumped and stared at the furry possum butt (that was sorta all we could see really). The Possum was very safe, and up about maybe 7-8 metres…
The other day I tried to take a pic of Billy airborne leaping about But it didn’t work out so well. My photographer skills are pretty minimal. Today he did the same and the best I could come up with was a pre-leap blurr pic, and a completely disappeared leash-only shot. So it was pretty hectic there at one point…
Billy is very lead-aware and only goes out to the limit of the lead… but this is the first time the lead went vertical! … and I had my lead on him, so it’s a 2 metre lead…so Billy got quite air borne!
So that’s the last time I feel sorry for Billy ‘coz I think he might be pooped! I should know better, he never complains and always likes his walks… pooped or not!
We made it home a little late due to the tree climbing shenanigans, but it made for a well earned flop in the shade at home. Good walking Billy and great possum spotting….!
