Today Riley and I headed off into the sun-shiny day and although I usually head for as much shade as we can find. Sometimes I’d find myself out of the shade, while Riley stayed nice and cool in the shade of the trees. He also showed how clever he is too, by taking me to a couple of taps along the way… it was thirsty work out there so it was handy to know.
Riley came out of his cool Riley cave, a very shady and comfortable looking spot indeed, with tail wagging and seemed happy to see me. He’s always a happy boy and likes to see visitors. So we hooked up his harness and headed off.
I had a bit of a plan about where to walk. I wanted to see if Riley knew the way I was thinking of, and to see if he’d make suggestions on route selection! I think he is already used to me and has me worked out and just goes with my crazy walks. He only suggested a couple of alternates today but I still had a plan for where we’d go.
The main aim was to take on a hill and then down to a creek. Along the way there were lots of tree lined sections and Riley stuck to those as the clever sun smart boy he is. I also found a very nice shady grove that I had walked past any number of times yet had not seen it before! Riley seemed to like it and led the way for a little rest.
We made it all the way to the creek and stopped for a well earned drink and shady rest. We headed off toward home and I was following a route home that might take us by some parks with taps. Riley was onto me and led the way to a couple of them. So we stopped for another refill and off we went.
By the time we got home we were both pretty pooped, and I was looking forward to a drink myself. ( I don’t carry water for me…or drink at our drink breaks…I just make sure my team are happy first). But it seemed that Riley was well hydrated despite the big effort, as he went to his comfy shady spot and crashed out… I refilled his water dish, but he was all good,
When I closed the gate to leave, Riley was wagging his tail from is cool vantage point. Yay, Job done, a happy pooped Dog! Good walking again today Riley!
