So after hanging with Sam, on his first walk with me, and Sammy, on her second walk… I was off to take a walk with my Red-Dog mate Billy. Together we have walked a lazy 270+km! If Billy wasn’t fit before…he certainly is now…he’s looking like he could easily walk 270km again without too much trouble.
As you would imagine Billy and I have our routine. We pretty much just plod along at a ground eating pace. It doesn’t feel like much at the time but when we stop for our drink and shade breaks we realise how far we have walked.
Its also pretty cool to watch Billy on different days. Like today (he must have read my mind) I planned to go an see a couple of trees that Billy has tracked possums to. So I thought it’d be interesting just to see if we could find one again. We went to one tree he was interested in once before… but now he wanted to check all the trees… I’ve created a Monster!
He also looked at me funny when he wanted to go check out more trees and I was heading off up a steep hill. He’s like, ‘…Really?’ So we headed off up a hill and Billy picked a nice tree to shade up under so we stopped for a drink and a rest. Billy is a funny guy. At the bottom of the hill he had that face that wasn’t so sure about clambering up a hill, but he soon forgot that and was all sniffles and snuffles of scents as we walked up the hill, and was all about the love and the scratches and pats when we stopped. I can always count on Billy for a good chat in our breaks!
So we headed off home, there was no possum action in the tree we actually saw one in the other day, so that was a bust, but Billy didn’t seem to worried about it. So we kept on going and made it home to the cool water bucket and the shady spots Billy likes.
See you again soon Billy… very nice walk today mate!
