Sammy is a special ‘lil girl that we have all been working with to become more relaxed and enjoy her friends and have fun. I pretty much am tailor made for someone like Sammy, as I try not to take things too seriously, and try to make every walk fun and interesting. This is only the second time we have walked together so I was looking forward to it.

Usually I see Sammy a couple times a week for the odd taxi ride here n there taking her to school. Before we leave and when we get home, we get to squeeze in some play. A lil fetch or chase. Sammy always gives me a nice happy welcome and I’m not sure if its for the silly games we play or the even sillier ride to school?

Despite me referring to Sammy as a ‘lil girl, she takes up pretty much half my lil car. So it’s a fun time squeezing into the car, getting rigged up in the harness and secured so she cant lean too far out of the window. And off we go tongues hanging out and tail wagging.

So that’s our usual routine. But every now and then I get to walk Sammy. Today when I only put a lead on her I am certain she knew what was happening as she was excited to go.

We still practiced being serious and sitting and waiting for the gate to open and close and off we went. Its so nice to see Sammy having fun out of the yard, we got to explore a fair bit today and went a good distance away from home and saw a lot of Dogs in their yards. Sammy was so well behaved when we had to sit and just watch. Even when there was a particularly noisy neighbour she was pretty relaxed, and we sat sharing ear scratches, then away we went.

There was a lot of building noises and traffic and people and of course Dogs, so it was a pretty busy morning. To chill out for a lil while, have a rest from all the goings on and to shade up and have a drink, we headed for a nice bit of open space. There were pine cones scattered about and Sammy liked to chew on each of them for a sec. Just enough to get that lovely pine gum taste! Then move on to the next one.

We had already had a rest break and a drink and when we stopped for a second one Sammy was keen to keep going so that pit-stop was pretty quick. On our way home we got to me one of my team members Digger. She was out with her Dad doing some gardening so took some time out to come say hello. Sammy did really well! Digger is a lovely ball of energy, bright, happy and very polite… but like me, when you first meet Sammy, all you want to do is play. Sammy is a little more reserved but they said hello, so I was very happy with that. I I was to meet any dog with Sammy… I’m glad it was Digger!

So it was a pretty big social day today! We also went further away from home again with no worries, so we definitely got a workout. It was thirsty work and Sammy took a big drink, and by the time I left she too was shaded up and already having a rest! Good job today Sammy!
