Riley is a funny lil guy… he’s very happy to welcome me, but when we harness up he’s all business,’…lets get going mike!’ So it was so nice to see him let his serious face disappear and he had a few roley-poley sessions in the wet grass and where there was leaf litter washed up from the rain storms yesterday. A happy dog, makes for a happy dog walker… so it was a good walk all-round.

Riley is a great dog to walk with… he is a little bit determined to walk the way he wants, but I sometimes give in and see where he wanted to go… its usually nowhere in particular, he just likes to lead the way and the route we take! Funny boy!

Today I didn’t want to push him too far and go wild and crazy with the route selection. We sort of ambled around where he walks with just a few tweaks here and there. He did want to change course a few times but we kept on going my way until we reached a nice open park.

The edges of the park had rain washouts and the leaf an bark litter, but the open grassy areas was very clean and a little squishy underfoot. It must have felt good under Rileys paws, as a few times he dived off course and just rolled around in the damp grass and the bits where leaf and twig debris got washed in small riffle-piles. They all must have smelled good so off he went for a roll! There didn’t seem to be anything nasty all washed up, and he didn’t smell when we stopped for as break, so I don’t think it was to roll in anything disgusting… it was just top roll about.

As Riley was enjoying himself and seemed to like the rolley-poley stops, we did a few laps of the park and had a pretty relaxing walk.

We clocked up a few k’s in the park and headed off in a zig-zaggy pattern to get home. There was always something interesting to see and smell and Riley was having fun nosing about.

Its always nice to see my team having fun… and when we got home Riley didn’t collapse in a pile in his nice cool shelter. Today he still had some energy left as he saw me off. Its nice to walk in some cooler weather… great for Dogs and Dog walkers alike. Good job Riley!
