Zoe and Joe

Zoe Joe and I got to do a loop that incorporated a section of water course that Muriel and I took in our investigations of the aftermath of the heavy rain we had yesterday afternoon and evening. We even got our feet muddy in the silty soil and the washed up leaf litter. So there was a lot to checkout and lots of clean fresh soily smells to investigate.

First up we headed off on a cycleway down to the bottom of a watercourse… it was pretty muddy, but I know Zoe and Joe are always up for an adventure… even if it does mean muddy paws! So we crossed the section of path that had clearly been under water and may have been a swirling torrent as the water got sucked down a deep drain. It left behind sodden mud and leaf litter that was soft and squelchy beneath our feet! So that was pretty nice.

Then we headed off up the watercourse to see what things were like up there. As you would imagine, my favourite tree-lined walkway was strewn with bark and leaves and we saw the kids play ground that would have been a very inviting pond to play in. It would have been reasonably safe to play in… I wish Zoe Joe and I had been there yesterday afternoon. I would have definitely needed my gum boots for that one. It would have maybe been a few inches deep… but it would have been fun splashing about… well… Zoe and I would have splashed about… Joe is a bit more serious when it comes to water!

So we continued along the path, up to the top of the hill and joined a nice walkway and and cycle way. We had made good time so we went down to where the big swirling pond would have been for a better look. Up close it was still a bit soggy… but nothing too exciting was washed down. It was pretty clean really… Just nice fresh topsoil!

So we headed back for home, a drink and a rest. My two Boxer friends, Zoe and Joe where pretty pooped… but they didn’t fall splat on the cool concrete… amazing what a few degrees difference in temperature makes!
