Today Diesel and I took a walk to the park, and we tried out some of his lessons. He did so well and he worked very hard. Well done Diesel!

We did a backstreet shuffle to a massive open park and I thought we would see how Diesel went off the lead! Yes… Diesel is doing so well at listening we thought we’d try that.

He was so funny. I let him off lead in the middle of nowhere and I sat down. You could see he wanted to bolt, but then he thought… ooh, it’s a big park Mike… as he tentatively walked away, he’d take a few steps, look back walk some more and look back and so on til he was 20 metres away… I called him back and he was very happy with himself.

I’d let him circle around in as big an arc as he wanted, giving him encouragement and calling him back… we had lots of wrestles and of he’d go again. After repeating this a few times, he came back, and flopped on the ground. So we had a drink and a chat.

The next ones I would follow him off lead then call and run as fast as I could away from him! He loved that. It was a great way to wear him (and me) out!

That was our first off leash play. He loved the wrestles in between and sat and stretched out a couple of times, like he had been off leash most of his life…
