18.03.15 Fergus and Zara

Fergus, Zara and I headed off into the darkness again this morning. I took the headlamp but we navigated by cloud covered moonlight and by retriever noses…!

The start of a busy day of walking with my team was kicked off by Fergus and Zara. They were already up, and wrestling with each other as I got to the gate. Such good mates! They pawsed for a little while and greeted me as I came in.

There must have been a lead and collar monster (along with the snack treat bag monster) as when we went looking for them…none to be found. Fergus and Zara have permanent collars on anyway so we just winged it and went with those. Yesterday there was a torn up empty packet from the treats. I suspect the family kitty cat teased the two retrievers with it and dropped it down to them. Needless to say there was very little of the packet left when I got there the next day!

The family kitty is also very clever…and as you would expect…very agile. I was always interested to see her jump up on the gate as I opened it, and sat (as you’d expect a cat to do) as if it were no big deal, taking a flying leap onto a moving gate and landing and looking at us all leaving! Well I thought it was cool!

We headed off and within maybe 50m from home, I suspect a rabbit scooted across Fergus and Zara’s path…. We had two very very excited Retrievers and a slightly bewildered Mike (… it was early!), but we managed to settle into our groove and continue on to the bushland reserve.

It’s kinda cool wandering through the bush in the darkness, all the hippety-hopping of roos, trying to “stealth-hop” away. They are surprisingly quiet, but you could still hear their light pad-steps bounding away.

Someone was saying that the Aurora Australis was out last night. Sightings were made even in Goulburn. But we didn’t see anything as cool as that. Though, there was a dull light coming from seemingly nowhere!?

As we left nice and early, it was only just getting light when we got home. Both Zara and Fergus were suitably pooped and had a drink and retired through their Doggy-door to what I suspect were their napping spots!

It was great fun to walk with you both again…hope you had a great day today Zara and Fergus.
