19.04.15 Phil
Today Phil and I dodged more garden work and the rain and we also got to see the mini rail at work, or rather at play.
A few weeks ago Phil and I had a slow start to our walk…not today! We started off by almost jogging up the first hill and then pretty much a sprint down the hill again! By the time we got to one of the parks we’d pretty much only spent a quarter of our time! Phew
I so wasn’t looking forward to the hill-climb at the end! So I devised a plan to take a long long slow climb that one of the streets nearby can provide rather than those with undulations and a couple of “false summits”. You know those hills you get to the top of, only to find out that there was more to come! We call those false summits!
We finally got to see the miniature railway at work and there were lots of people enjoying the break in the rain and taking a ride on the trains. It looks like fun folks…head down and have a peek some day.
So we took some happy snaps and off we went again keeping our eyes out for pigeons as we went. We had already seen a couple this morning, but I was hoping to see if I could catch Phil in the act!
We jogged down to the riverside walk and we were going to see if we could take a look at the behind the scenes where the horse floats park and horses warm up. We didn’t quite make it all the way over there, but we did follow part of the “Historic walk” that is now sign posted in and around the boundary between the river and Durham street. The marker at the Ohkuma gardens has a map of the stops, but I am sure there is a Walkers map somewhere around town.
Phil wasn’t too interested in the historic info, though I know for a fact he was keeping his eye out for Pigeons. In fact while we were at Ohkuma Gardens Phil spotted a pigeon doing its best to hide from us… it didn’t hide well enough and I caught the excitement on video…I hope.
From the river we walked along the highway for a little while and then walked up the long sloping street. It is probably the nicest way to climb the hill, rather than those steeper hills nearby!
We did manage to arrive home when most of the hard work had been done…again (well-done on the timing Phil!), and Phil pretty much went to the water bucket straight away!
We did manage to get home a little late, but we were having a big walk day. Good job today Phil!
