22.04.15 Diesel

Today Diesel and I aced the leash free thing and watched Ducks… it just doesn’t get better than that.

Diesel can be a crazy boy at times, then he can sit and watch a horse from a nose to nose hello! He can go from a jumping jack-in-the box, to pretty-much a bored grown-up around an energetic puppy he has just met!

He has worked really hard to get where he is, his energy is contagious, his antics are hilarious and he’s such fun (and tiring) to be around! Part of lil Diesels work out has been to practice a few lead-free drills which I have written about before. He is still learning and making small steps as he goes.

Today was a classic day that shows just how good it is for your dog to get out of the yard and just enjoy their surrounds. Don’t forget, Diesel and I have spent time in open parklands… so it doesn’t have to be an exciting location. Your Dog will make it fun and find their own excitement…so get them out there any way you can!

Diesel had so much fun today you could see it in his eyes and an ever wagging tail! A few weeks ago…I posted a video of Diesel baulking at a babbling brook! He didn’t know what to make of the movement and noise. Last week we crossed the Macquarie river on foot across lots of rocks and a few chest high wades!

Today on one of our leash free practices he found the spot where we exited the water after our river crossing, and he jumped into the water (it was only knee deep on Diesel) and looked up at me and was then watching as the bubbles of water went by. He jumped in and out just having fun.

We went around to the other side (on-lead) and he got to take a peek at some ducks from the water’s edge, all on his own. It was great to watch his excitement… not the sort of excitement that involves barking or scaring the ducks but just watching, then getting a better spot and watching and so on…he’s so cool!

We walked up and down the bank, leaving the ducks behind and Diesel followed. Sure he’d go do his own thing, but he was always doing an intermittent look back to see which way I was going. When I’d change direction while he wasn’t looking he would charge back at full speed and the reward was a wrestle and off he’d go again.

I reckon that’s a pretty good time out for my mate Diesel…!
