12.05.05 Billy

Billy and I braved that breeze that was out today and took a walk through some parks to warm up.

Today I was able to sneak up on Billy, but by the time I was at “his” gate he was onto me. It always makes me smile when Billy is all cuddle-puppy on me! Billy is such a great Dog and I am lucky to have him on my team. But we had a ritual to proceed with…so I sat down… and Billy leaned in close to pats and scratches and he tries to do some face-licks, but I somehow manage to miss those…! No offence Billy, but being slobbered on on a cold windy day, is no way to make friends!

So we put the collar and lead on and away we went. My big plan for today was to avoid as many hills as we could! If you are clever, Billy and I could keep to pretty much the same line of topography and barely get off level ground. It takes some doing and planning … but it can be done!!

We had to skirt around what I am calling “the pond”, as the hole just keeps gitting bigger and deeper (they can drive one of those trucks with the tyres as big as two Mikes stacked on top of each other! Admittedly I am not very tall…but you get the idea! So the 6 wheel drive truck dives into the hole to be loaded… I have no idea what we could use a hole that big for, where they have carefully excavated one…. We shall see I guess!

So we skirted around “the pond”, then across the park then circumnavigated another oval and scooted around the base of a hill. Pretty clever really, and it took us past some trees that Billy swears has possums visit very regularly. So Billy likes that part…snuffling about at the base of the trees, then standing back to take a look up the tree and then on to the next! Billy is nothing, if not, persistent!

We came home past a muddy pond that I have let Billy in once, but he came out dirtier than when he went in. It has some very fine mud and clay in it and it doesn’t smell so great. As you would guess, this is just the kind of pond Billy would love… but I managed to keep him out of it…just!

We arrived home for a brief game of fetch with his rope toys. I also go to see the remnants of that ball we found the other day! Shredded! Way to go Billy!

See you next time mate!
