15.05.15 Leo and Sadie

Leo was a very distracted boy today, So Sadie and I tried to practice some calming skills with him.

Today we set of for our walk and I had in mind doing a few road crossings to practice a stop and sit as we waited for cars to go by. We did really well at that and we walked across the road like little champions. When we set off again after some well deserved pats and scratches, Sadie even looked back as if to ask…did we do good or what!?

We walked along the pathway and poor leo was distracted by a local neighbourhood dog out for a walk with a family member. We walked by and recovered nicely and continued on our way. We were motoring along pretty well when leo jumped and took off for what I thought may have been a rabbit in the grass…but not so much! I looked around at leos eye level and he was jumping at cars he could see moving through the grass!

We walked along further where we could see cars going by at quite a distance and sat down and watched. Just as we we settling a couple of people walked by and we had to settle again.

It was pretty hard work for Leo and Sadie today. We stopped by the roadside to watch cars and settled really well and walked off, when Leo saw some people and dogs and we sat down and watched again. Sadie was very supportive but Leo was off in his own world!

We did manage to head back for home in a relatively calm manner, but then we had to pass more of the noisy neighbours. Leo and Sadie were trying very hard not to be annoyed at the noise, but it was a little too much after all the excitement going on…

We finally made it home for a rest, all that noise and people and cars and dogs were a little tiring, so I am sure Leo and Sadie needed a rest…I know I did! Don’t worry Leo and Sadie…there is always next time for a relaxing walk… I hope you rest up over the weekend!
