22.05.15 Leo and Sadie
Leo, Sadie and I took off for another early morning walk. It was a little bit of hard work…but we got there in the end.
Leo and Sadie, as you know are two of my hardest workers. They at times get a little bit distracted. Sometimes its Sadie, but lately she has been such a great girl…even trying to help calm Leo down for a nice walk. Between Sadie and I we did get to help leo out…but it took a little while.
Like Leo, I have been practicing too. Leo is mostly a great lil guy. He has a great personality and although a little aloof (he chooses his friends very carefully) he loves a quiet pat under a tree and sits on me in the morning sun…that’s if he can wedge in while Sadie is snuggled up close by!
I have been practicing trying to be a few steps ahead of Leo and keep an eye out on some triggers or to work out when some thing has his attention for too long…in a distracting way. I am getting better as I love all my dogs to have fun and see everything around them and sniff and paw at things… but sometimes those things get too distracting.
One of the techniques I have learned is that when something comes up…we distract Leo and heaed away from what ever he is looking at. He is a clever boy and he does listen…so we did a few laps of a section of path we were walking. We get to continue on and have no real problem.
We did do one of my favourite loops, up to the race track, then along the road through the leaves and then up towards home. There are lots of things to see and we took particular interest in some frogs and ducks in a little creek. That sort of distraction I love. To see my Dogs prick up their ears, have a good look and try to work out what it was… its very rewarding.
We did get a little distracted on the way home, but we did a few laps of the dirt track we take and all was ok again. We even took the “noisy route” home today…and although we worked very hard, we got home and we were all pretty calm considering the racket some neighbours were making!
Good Job Sadie, for helping out, and well done Mr Leo… I know you are working hard too!
