Phil and I celebrate his birthday with a Birthday walk!
Phil and I are both getting on in age, but age doesn’t seem to be holding Phil back at all… unlike me, of course!
I tried to make a deal with Phil this morning, to have a nice casual walk today and to take it easy on me. He didn’t really seem so convinced that we should, so off we charged. I sometimes ask for leniency from Phils fast pace on account of my poor ol’ arthritic knees that have been playing up a little. Protesting at all the kilometres I have been doing with my team lately.
Plan A today was to head off over to one of my favourite watercourses and take our time doing it. A nice there and back run would have been very nice as it is mostly flat and the hills are grassy anyway. But we made pretty spectacular time and Phil was showing no signs of slowing up, so we turned off for another section of the walks we do.
In fact it had been a while since Phil and I have walked this way. Along the way we stumbled upon some pigeons, the only lot we really saw today, I noticed them before Phil, he was concentrating on some smells along the path. I interrupted hime and pointed them out, so his attention switched from some suspicious smell to now stalking mode… as always, the pigeons were safe…especially today, as I wasn’t running anywhere!
That was pretty exciting and Phil was very happy seeing them, and we continued on at pace. Now what? I thought? So we crossed the road and followed the roadside path up to one of the sporting ovals, and rather than continue off up the hill, we skirted around the bottom of the hill, crossing the oval then off up past the grey stump to top out at the hill.
Phil found a nice muddy pool to splash in and just as he was paws deep…I remembered he had just had a bath… Noooo Phil… but it was too late he was starting to rake at the mud! I had to drag him out, as he wasn’t too convinced that this wasn’t such a bad idea…to play in the mud… normally I wouldn’t mind but we weren’t near any water that we could clean ourselves off… d’oh!
We followed the roadside pathways again and climbed and dipped our way toward home. We had both warmed up after these set of hills, so we had to stop for me to strip off a layer. Phil didn’t seem to mind the stop, though he powered on toward home. We got home and Phil didn’t even seem pooped or thirsty… not too bad for an old fella!
Happy birthday Phil…!
