31.05.15 Phil

Phil took it easy on me today, my poor old bones needed a few days off, and what betterway to start up the weeks walking, than a walk with Phil.

Even though it was a bit cold out, Phil was brave and faced the walk without his jumper… I didn’t have my big coat on, so we were both going to be ok! So off we went out the gate, with Phil already looking for pigeons! It’s not so silly to start looking, as there are a few pigeons that do hang around…so he was hopeful!

We headed off down the road to join up with the cycle way that heads off in a couple of directions. We chose the one along the roadside as we were heading over to another cycleway that sort of heads home. The cycleway had a few people on it, a family with a Dog of its lead and then another lovely big Dog on lead… the little one was trying to cause trouble so we avoided that lil melee and crossed a little further along.

We had the pathway to ourselves as we scooted along. Phil, as always had his head skyward at times to spy some smaller birds…but it was pretty quiet really. It turned out to be a pigeon free day! But as we approached a nice big tree there were some Choughs. Is that what they are called… Not crows, not ravens…theres another whole family of black birds… anyway!! So as we approached they were pretty quiet, but as we got up under the tree they made this weird noise which they all repeated… probably translated to, ‘…theres a Phil down there…’, to which they all replied at different times…

When the first one called Phil startled just a little bit, but kept looking up…another called, and so it would go. Phil ducked for cover a couple of times, but he did keep looking back up to see what they were… so he wasn’t too scared. Brave Phil!

We kept on going up to a cross road of the cycleways and we took off up the hill. We had both warmed up as we climbed the hill, so that was nice… when we got to the street we were going to zig and zag along to get home, Phil was interested in another set of trees in someones garden… we did a bit of back and forth and Phil was pretty sure there was something in there! It turned out to be a bunch of Finches and Phil really likes those too…he was so happy, that he even tried scaling the tall bushes! Tree climbing…yet another skill to Phils bag of tricks…

I have a few tree climbing Dogs in my team now!

So we headed for home pretty much on schedule. Phil was taking it easy on me as I was still a bit sore. Phil too was a bit sore at one spot…so we made a great pair…! Two old blokes determined to go on their walk…no matter what!

Well done Phil… see you again soon…!
